Big Darby Creek in central Ohio has long been recognized and protected as one of the most pristine streams in the Midwest. However, local leaders are poised to exploit a loophole that would allow an explosion of urban sprawl across the lands surrounding the creek. Poorly planned development would result in polluted runoff, harming water quality and the sensitive wildlife that call the creek home. The city of Columbus, Plain City, West Jefferson and Madison and Union Counties must produce a science-based plan to determine how much, and what type, of development makes sense for the area, if they want to safeguard Big Darby Creek and the priceless benefits its clean waters provide to the region.
